SE 4 - When I Got Saved

Bobby Haaby

Overview:

Encounters with God are not reserved for the super-spiritual or those striving to earn His presence—they are the birthright of every believer. In this session, we explore how God often initiates encounters even when we aren’t seeking Him, and how our part is to develop a posture of awareness and openness. Bobby shares his personal salvation story, highlighting that God pursues us, sometimes even before we realize our need. We’ll learn practical ways to cultivate sensitivity to God’s presence in everyday life, avoid missing our “day of visitation,” and steward encounters so that they transform us from the inside out.

“You said my name once, but I’ve been here your whole life.”

Core Takeaways:

Our role is to posture ourselves in awareness—like a watchman—so we don’t miss moments of visitation.

God desires to encounter us in every part of our being: spirit, soul, and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

Stewarding encounters means journaling, praying, and asking God for practical strategies to live out what He reveals.

Don’t limit God to one way of speaking—He may encounter you through visions, scripture, people, or even in the “wind” of new seasons.

God often initiates encounters; we need to respond quickly.

Cultivate awareness in daily spaces; He is near.

Steward encounters through journaling and obedience.

Ask for strategy to walk out what you heard.

Key Scriptures:

Luke 13:34–35 — Jesus longs to gather Jerusalem but they “missed their day of visitation.”

Habakkuk 2:1–2 — “I will stand at my guard post… and watch to see what He will say… then write down the vision.”

Exodus 3:1–4 — Moses turns aside to see the burning bush.

John 3:8 — “The wind blows where it wishes… so it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23 — “May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

John 3:16 — “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…” (God as Initiator)

Questions To Consider:

Where is God already speaking in your routine?

Who can help you discern next steps?

Activation:

Pause in a public place for 3 minutes. Ask the Lord to heighten awareness. Note one way He draws your attention. Pray briefly into it.

Journal Prompt:

Reflect on a time when God broke into your life unexpectedly. How did you respond? What practices can you build into your life to steward these moments, so they lead to lasting transformation and not just a fleeting experience?

Remember:

God delights in encountering you. He’s already moving toward you—your role is to turn aside, watch, and respond, letting every encounter draw you deeper into relationship and greater Christlikeness.
